Monday 31st March 2014
As part of the ongoing efforts to make Macrete Ireland Ltd more environmentally friendly, the company have installed a 250Kw wind turbine along with 40Kw of solar pv, new LED lighting and a waste wood burner to heat the office block.
The wind turbine has been operational for a few months now and is performing exceptionally well with production running at approximately 50% of the total plant usage. The production is being constantly monitored through scada which is giving Macrete to opportunity to check the power-curve against actual production.
The Turbine is a Bonus 250 standing 32m to the hub and was fully refurbished by "Precision Gear Company" (PGC) which is a sister company of Macrete Ireland Ltd.
LED lighting has been installed throughout the factory greatly reducing power usage. The lights all have movement sensors which will only allow them to switch on when the work force are in those particular areas. It is estimated that these lights have reduced the power usage for lighting by half.
A 60Kw waste wood burning boiler has been installed to provide heating for the Precision Gear Company workshops and the Macrete Ireland Ltd office block. The boiler is fueled by waste timber coming from the Macrete Ireland Ltd production area.
Macrete Ireland Ltd are constantly striving to reduce their carbon footprint not only in the factory but also by encouraging its suppliers to do the same.
