Preston Flood Relief
01 April 2009

Macrete Ireland have recently designed and supplied a new 20.00m diameter precast concrete detention tank in the Ashford Crescent area of Garstang, near Preston, Lancashire.

The tank is the centrepiece in a £2 million flood relief scheme to alleviate the risk to the surrounding residential area.

The shaft has a depth of 16.00m constructed using Macrete Smoothbore Shaft Rings, and a capacity of 1.8 million litres.

The Cover Slab is constructed from 6 Nr support beams weighing an average of 10.50 tonnes and 23 Nr slab pieces, the lightest of which weighed 7.65 tonnes up to the heaviest at 23.23 tonnes.

The work was carried out on behalf of the main contractor Balfour Beatty Utility Solutions Ltd (BBUSL) for the client United Utilities.
